For those of you who didn't know. Myles doesn't talk. He doesn't really say any words at all. Just in the last week or so, he has started saying, "mama" but that is about it and it's not all the time.
I've been concerned and in September when we got back from MI, I self-referred Myles to the Arizona Early Intervention program. After a long, drawn-out process he was evaluated by a speech therapist and we were told he didn't qualify for speech services (even though he was saying NO words at 23 months of age). I wasn't happy about it and brought it up at his 2 year check-up at the beginning of this month.
Our Ped was concerned and referred us to get his hearing tested and then said we would go from there and if need be he would label Myles as "autistic" even though neither one of us think he is autsitic, but the ped said if he labeled him as that, then the resources would be a LOT easier to get for us.
So, Myles had a hearing evaluation/tests done today. Chris took him and they put things in his ears to test the vibration and he has almost none which is not good. They then put him in a sound box and he didn't show any response to sounds on his left side and only some on his right side:-( We know he hears because he follows commands and stuff and I have never even once thought he couldn't hear. After some more tests, they found out his has a LOT of fluid behind both ears and needs tubes put in (this in my child that has never ONCE had an ear infection).
They said that he does hear but that everything he hears is probably muffled and that is why he isn't talking. They said that we would probably be quite pleased with how fast he starts talking after he has tubes put in. I feel awful that my poor little guy has been living with fluid behind his ears for who knows how long and that he hears the whole world through muffled sounds:-(
The lady that schedules the surgeries wasn't there today so we won't get a date until next week, but please pray that they can get him in pretty quickly (I'm really hoping maybe we can get it done next week) and that this fixes his speech issues and that he'll begin talking like a normal 2 year old soon.
