Many of you know that I'm pretty pasionate about carseat safety. Although I let my tech certificate exprire in May because well with four kids I just didn't have the time to volunteer my time like I used to be able too. I still keep up with carseat stuff and am still on a few carseat forums and chat rooms where I'm always learning new information. Anyway, I get e-mails or see posts about children that die in car related accidents all of the time. It's heartbreaking and sad. This just came across from Safekids, the orginazation that I took my tech training through and the one I used to do a lot of volunteer work with. I just thought I would share and hopefully safe a life in the process!
20 Years Ago, My Life Changed Forever

My six-year-old son, Jake died, strapped in his seat belt in the back of our family’s car, died. A young man in a heavy pick-up truck blacked out at the wheel, crossed the median strip and hit us head-on.
Driving, I bore the collision injuries—but Jake had no obvious injuries, just a purplish bruise line at his waist. Upon impact, his seat belt, meant for an adult passenger, had cinched at his abdomen and ripped the main artery to his liver. Within 40 minutes he bled to death.
Had Jake been in a booster seat he would have lived. Jake didn’t have a chance—because I didn’t have the information I needed to keep him safe.
Safe Kids USA is devoted to preventing such tragic and unnecessary deaths and has done much to ensure what happened to my son does not happen to another child:
Educated millions of parents that children should ride in a booster seat until an adult seat belt fits properly
Advocated for booster seat laws from just 2 states in 2001 to 43 states today
Inspected over one million car seats, ensuring that children are safe every ride, every time
In just 20 years, Safe Kids USA has contributed to a reduction in preventable deaths to children by 45% in the United States. Yet accidental injury remains the nation’s leading killer of kids, more than all childhood diseases combined. We are losing too many children to an epidemic that can be prevented.
But they need your help to develop and deliver life-saving information on preventing injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes and the other major causes of childhood injury: airway obstruction, drowning, pedestrian injury and burns. In this season of giving, please make a generous donation to Safe Kids USA.
Your gift will not only help protect a child from injury, it will spare a family from experiencing the anguish of losing a child. It is truly the gift of a lifetime.
