A Parade!

Today our little town of Laveen had a parade! It was a beautiful day and since the parade was only about 5 miles away, we decided to bike over to the parade with our friends and their children. It was good exercise to get 10 miles of biking in today:-)

Chris ready to head to the parade!

The sign says it all! The start of the parade!

Myles, Raelyn & Jenna

Watching the parade!

My little girl who is growing up on me way too fast.

Watching the parade.

Every parade needs a clown!

Daddy and Adalyn

Love those clowns!

LOTS of horses in the parade this year.

Our church had a float and walked in the parade. Here are some of the members of our church walking in the parade.

The theme of our church's float this year was "Ain't Laveen Grape" They were decked out in grape shirts and passed out grape candy!

Pastor Jeff - We love this guy!

One thing I LOVE about where we live is the diversity and culture our children are exposed to all of the time. The parade had Chinese New Year Dragons in it. These horses were the best. All people from mexico in mexico clothing and the horses actually "danced" their way down the street. It was very cool to watch.

They fell asleep on the way back home after the parade.

Free food from Chipolte!

After the parade, we headed to Chipotle for free food! In honor of the Cardinals making it to the Superbowl, Chipotle was offering either a free burrito, taco, bowl or salad from 2 to 4 pm to everyone who showed up wearing Cardinal colors to support our team. We had never ate at Chipotle before, but our friends had and said it was very good! We waited in line for about 1 hour and 45 minutes before we got our (free) food. It was worth the wait. I personally am a fan now and will be back. The food was very good and very filling! We ended up bringing some home with us because we couldn't eat all of it.

The line! It was very long, check out all the red! Go Cardinals:-)

All of us in red, waiting in line.

Myles wanted in the picture:-)

The kids lined up along the wall. It was VERY warm in the sun and they were looking for shade. We had 9 kids total with us between our family and our friends family and they were actually very good for having to wait in line for as long as we did.

Finally! We eat!

I'm not ready for this....

Look who has decided that being on all fours in fun:-) She's not crawling yet, but she is very close! When did she get so big?

When the camera is out, they all want to be in the picture!
Who can resist taking a picture of these three?

Our Sleeping Beauty.

How I love this little girl.

Rodeo

This afternoon we went to a Rodeo near us. Officer Jakola (the one that lives on the ranch with the horses) was going to be in it and we thought it would be fun to go and watch. While Chris, Broedy & Myles watched this:

I sat in the car because a certain 5 year old announced when we got to the Rodeo that she didn't have any shoes on (grrrr). So I spent the afternoon sitting in the car with two little girls and watched out the window.

Little Miss Adalyn is so curious about everything. She had fun playing in the car and made me a nervous wreck. I kept thinking she was going to fall off of the car seat with all the things she kept reaching for.

Garage Sale!

Honestly, who has a garage sale in January? Well, we did for the 1st time in our lives:-)
It was a beautiful day, we had a lot of fun, got rid of some stuff and made some money all at the same time! We did it with a couple from our church that lives right in our neighborhood!

This was towards the end of the day, we had a lot more stuff than this and we got rid of a lot in a few short hours.

Hanging out in the garage towards the end of the day.

I ran to McDonald's to pick up lunch for everyone and Myles crashed on the way back. We opened the windows and let him sleep. Poor little guy, he was soooo tired.

Heartwarming

I haven't said a whole lot about this election, but I do want to say this. Weather I believe in everything politically that our new president believes in or not, I respect our new president more than any president we've ever had and here's why.

I see him as real, a real person, a real dad and a real husband. He has given me hope that I have never had for this country and watching him with his family honestly gives me goose bumps. Never before have I taken that much interest in politics. They have always come across as so "above me" before and I never connected in a way that our new president has drawn me in. I love watching him on tv, I enjoy listening to him give speeches, I love watching him interact with his wife and children and I have great hope for the future of our country. I found this letter today and it made me cry. I write letters to my children all of the time (which many of you have seen and in fact, I wrote one last night to Adalyn because she turned 8 months old yesterday) and to see a letter from our president to his precious children makes me proud to have him as the leader of this country.

I hope you enjoy this letter as much as I did!

What I Want for You — and Every Child in America'
By President-elect Barack Obama
Publication Date: 01/18/2009

On Tuesday, Barack Obama will be sworn in as our 44th President. On this historic occasion, PARADE asked the President-elect, who is also a devoted family man, to get personal and tell us what he wants for his children. Here, he shares his letter to them.

Dear Malia and Sasha,

I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours.

In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation. I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren't rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity. I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you'll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other. Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country—but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free—that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility.

That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something. She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better—and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be. I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you've had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much—although you do have that obligation. But because you have an obligation to yourself. Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential. These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure. I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.

Love,
Dad

8 Months old

Adalyn Grace,

I can't believe you are 8 months old. I was just saying to Daddy a few days ago that I can't believe how big you are. I got you out of your crib the other day to nurse you and I couldn't believe how much you have grown in the last 8 months. Where did my newborn go?

You are such a charmer and still have everyone in this house wrapped around your finger. You are into everything and so curious about everything around you. Anything within reach is in danger of going in your mouth as you discover the world around you. You are getting up on all fours, but have yet to start crawling yet.

You are the most precious little thing and I am so proud to be your Mommy. I love you little one!

Love,
Mommy

A good day in America....

A day in history....

A day my kids didn't quite get....

"Why do you have tears in your eyes Mommy?"

Because today is a big day. Today for the 1st time in the history of the United States, we have a African-American president.

"What does that mean?"

It means a lot. See the color of his skin? It's different than ours and some people think that people with different color skin than us are bad people.

"But why Mommy, why would people think that?"

I have no answer for that, I don't get it either. Just know that people are people regardless of what they look like or how they talk or how they dress, okay. See, this is his wife and these are his two girls. He has a family just like you.

"He has two little girls, just like you and daddy have two little girls. Me and Adalyn, right Mommy"

Yes, Raelyn. You are right. Today he is making a promise to do his best to make the US, where we live a better place for all of us.

Two of my children will probably never remember today, two of them may or may not.

But to them.........This is and will always be their normal. For that, I am grateful.

My Good Deal!

I have wanted an ergo baby carrier since Myles was born. I've always heard such great things about them and although I do love my slings and use them daily, I wanted something that Chris could also wear as a backpack carrier for Myles when we went hiking and what-not. There have been many times when Chris & I have both said it would be nice to have a good, comfortable backpack carrier and I wanted something that could be used as a front carrier as well.

So, anyway, I decided I was going to use my Christmas money this year to get a ERGO. I started checking out craigslist and have found some used ones for about $85.00 but by the time I e-mailed them, they were gone or it didn't end up working out.

Thursday night I got on and someone had listed TWO ergo carriers for $40/each. I e-mailed the person thinking for that price they were probably gone already. Much to my surprise, I woke up on Friday morning to an e-mail that said they still had them. I called and talked to them and then hoped in my car and went and got them 1st thing Friday morning. These things retail for about $120 with tax and stuff and I got TWO of them for $80.00 total!

Now, I have one for Adalyn and Chris has one for Myles for when we go hiking. I've already used my a ton and am very happy with how comfortable and easy to use they are.

Here are a few pictures of me using mine at the ranch this past weekend with Adalyn!

Weekend Camping with the horses!

This past weekend we loaded up the camper and went out to camp at Sargent Jakola's ranch. He has about 20 horses, a bunch of goats, chickens, geese and a host of other animals. The kids helped out all weekend by feeding the animals, brushing the animals and other various things. The also got to ride the horses a lot and had a ton of fun. It was a beautiful weekend and we all had a really good time and it was nice to use our camper again!

This girl LOVES horses. I would love to get her in riding lessons and all she wanted to do was go horseback riding.
