A day in history....
A day my kids didn't quite get....
"Why do you have tears in your eyes Mommy?"
Because today is a big day. Today for the 1st time in the history of the United States, we have a African-American president.
"What does that mean?"
It means a lot. See the color of his skin? It's different than ours and some people think that people with different color skin than us are bad people.
"But why Mommy, why would people think that?"
I have no answer for that, I don't get it either. Just know that people are people regardless of what they look like or how they talk or how they dress, okay. See, this is his wife and these are his two girls. He has a family just like you.
"He has two little girls, just like you and daddy have two little girls. Me and Adalyn, right Mommy"
Yes, Raelyn. You are right. Today he is making a promise to do his best to make the US, where we live a better place for all of us.
Two of my children will probably never remember today, two of them may or may not.
But to them.........This is and will always be their normal. For that, I am grateful.
